Stepping in the 6th edition of MIFFest, we are very excited to partner with BMW Shorties for the first time. The longest running short film competition in Malaysia, and also the social glue for the diversified community.

Together with BMW Shorties, we are taking a significant leap towards “Better” and “Higher”, to present and deliver a variety of engaging programmes.

All its own, with this incredible partnership, MIFFest and BMW Shorties committed into accelerate and keep the industry alive, also spark new joy by providing a solid platform for the storytellers and creative forces here in the nation of Malaysia.

ABOUT BMW SHORTIES

The BMW Shorties is a cultural initiative by BMW Group Malaysia to discover and support emerging talent in film and digital content in Malaysia while recognising visionary local talents, providing them a platform to share their talent and driving their creative career journeys in the Malaysian industry. Over one thousand short film entries have been submitted since we began in December 2006, many of which have been screened at prestigious international film festivals such as Cannes, New York, Rotterdam, Oberhausen, Rome, Clermont– Ferrand and more!

The grand prize winner of the BMW Shorties 2023 will be awarded a production grant of RM 80,000 to produce their BMW Shorties funded film. Alongside that, recognition for filmmaking and creative talent will also be awarded in an extensive range of supporting categories, including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, the People’s Choice Award, as well as the Best Student Shorties Award.

Since BMW Shorties first started in 2006, they have had the utmost pleasure of witnessing talented creators bring their ideas and stories to life – with the emergence of new, awe-inspiring perspectives and innovative styles of filmmaking. It has always been our goal to ensure a sustainable industry development, optimisation of talent visibility and the revival of the Malaysian cinema too!
