Rajkumar Hirani, India ( Jury President )

  • Rajkumar Hirani is an Indian film director, editor, writer and producer. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful and critically acclaimed filmmakers in the history of Indian Cinema.
  • He is the comedic genius behind 3 Idiots.
  • He has won more than 63 awards to date.
  • He has received the President’s National Award for ‘The Most Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’ for Munnabhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots.
  • All of his films have been huge commercial and critical successes
  • His last masterpiece “SANJU” which is a biopic of a controversial film star is the highest grosser of the year in India and has been shown at various film festivals around the world.”Congratulations to the team of MIFFest for the 3rd year of celebrating cinema. Cecilia Yip, Hong Kong (Jury)

  • A Hong Kong Award-winning actress whose work is known through Asia, especially People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
  • Yip has starred in 51 feature-length films, and received various nominations and awards.
  • She won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress twice.
  • Her most recent work is Still Human, which won Best Film and Best Actor Awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards this year.

This is my very first visit to MIFF. I look forward to catching great films and meeting new friends. I hope my visit will introduce me to Malaysia’s rich and diverse culture.

Kim Hyung Koo, South Korea (Jury)

  • Kim Hyung Koo is a South Korean cinematographer who have amassed films of a variety of genres and styles since the mid-1990s.
  • Kim was known to accurately translate directors’ verbal messages into his visual language.
  • Kim is best known with his project, such as:
  • -[Memories of Murder] 2003
  • [The Host] 2006
  • [Hotel by the River] 2018
  • He had received 4 nominations and won 5 awards, of which includes:
  • Best Cinematography – Korean Grand Film Award 2006
  • Best Cinematography – Asian Film Award 2007
  • Best Cinematographer – Golden Cinematography Award 2008

Ho Yuhang, Malaysia (Jury)

  • Ho Yuhang is a Malaysian director. He studied electrical engineering at Iowa State University.
  • He won the Best Director award at the Nantes Festival of 3 Continents in 2006. The same year, he also received the New Talent Award at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.
  • The Andy Lau-produced Rain Dogs (2006) became the first Malaysian film to compete in the Venice Film Festival. His next feature At The End Of Daybreak garnered seven awards for lead actress Kara Wai.
  • His last feature-length film is Mrs K, a Malaysia-Hong Kong co-production. Since 2018 he’s been working with HBO and Netflix.

I hope this is the beginning of many beautiful friendships.

Joko Anwar, Indonesia (Jury)

  • Joko Anwar, born in Medan, North Sumatera, has been enjoying commercial and critical success as writer and director. The first film that he wrote, Arisan! (2003) won numerous awards at home and abroad and was hailed as a groundbreaking movie in Indonesia.
  • His directorial debut, Janji Joni (Joni’s Promise, 2005) was box office smash comedy and was highly praised by international critics.
  • Joko Anwar has also directed TV series for HBO Asia, including Folklore: A Mother’s Love (2018).
  • He just finished an Indonesian superhero movie titled Gundala which slated to be released in August 2019, and a horror titled Impetigore, which will be released October 2019.

There are many great offerings in this year’s MIFFEST. Excellent titles, interesting workshops. Have a great festival.
