Submission Guidelines
1) Introduction
The 6th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) 2023 is a public exhibition to showcase excellent international and local films in the beautiful country of Malaysia for a diverse audience of cinephiles. The Festival promotes and raises awareness of global cinema in all forms as art and culture that upholds the value of humanity. 2) Programme Categories
• Competition Section (Malaysia Golden Global Awards)|
A competitive section for new films by emerging directors.
• Non-Competition Section
New films from aspiring filmmakers from around the globe and the locals.
3) Award Categories for Competition Section
• Awards for Film
The Best Film, New Hope Award, Audience Choice Award (Non-Competitive).
• Awards for Individual
The Best Director, The Best Cinematography, The Best Screenplay, The Best Actor, The Best Actress, The Best Supporting Actor, The Best Supporting Actress, Outstanding Malaysian Filmmaker (Non-Competitive).
4) Submission Timeline
• MIFFest Competition
Film should be submitted for selection by: 26 Feb, 2023, no later than 6.00pm (GMT+8).
• MIFFest Non-Competition
Film should be submitted for selection by: 12 Mar, 2023, no later than 6.00pm (GMT+8).
• Any submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.
5) Submissions
• Each entrant shall be required to complete the online entry form on the MIFFest website, including the secure online screening link information.
• No Submission Fee is required.
• It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that the password stays active until 30 May, 2023. If the link or password must be updated prior to the dead line, the entrant must provide the latest online screener information to the Festival’s office at marketing@mgga.com.my.
• Concerning the selected films, the information required on the entry form and the press materials will be made public on the MIFFest website and in the media, including newspapers, journals, magazines, and television programmes, with the agreement of the entrants.
6) Eligibility – MIFFest Competition
Films satisfying the following conditions are eligible.
• All feature film submission must be directed by the New Directors (who only directed 3 feature films and below).
• All film entries may be from any country/countries of production.
• Films of 60 minutes or more in length.
• Film formats and video systems for theatrical screening that can be presented during the Festival are DCP and or in exceptional cases video file (.mov or .mp4).
• English subtitles are a must for the films and others are optional.
• All films entries must satisfy Malaysian Premiere. Films that have not been released publicly or streamed online in Malaysia prior to their showing at the Festival are required (Malaysia Films are exempted).
• Films that have been completed after 1 Jan, 2022.
7) Eligibility – MIFFest Non-Competition
Films satisfying the following conditions are eligible.
• Feature Film from around the world which represent the trend in independent filmmaking today and uphold the value of humanity.
• All film entries may be from any country/countries of production.
• Films of 60 minutes or more in length.
• Film formats and video systems for theatrical screening that can be presented during the Festival are DCP and or in exceptional cases video file (.mov or .mp4).
• English subtitles are a must for the films and others are optional.
• All films entries must satisfy Malaysian Premiere. Films that have not been released publicly or streamed online in Malaysia prior to their showing at the Festival are required (Malaysia Films are exempted).
• Films that have been completed after 1 Jan, 2022.
8) Selected Films
• Entrants whose films are selected shall be officially notified and invited by the Festival. Once the email is received, participants should send in the requested materials as below through email:
i. Digital Press Kit.
ii. High-definition Film stills (300 dpi, minimum six stills), in either JPG or PNG format.
iii. High-definition Portraits (Director, Producer, Scriptwriter, Cinematographer, Main Casts, Supporting Casts).
iv. Official trailers in either MP4 or MOV format.
v. Poster (1080×1920) without screening date and watermark in either JPG or PNG format.
vi. Downloadable screener (with watermarked) or MP4 File with English subtitle (other subtitles are optional) for local censorship purpose.
• Exhibition copy collection will be started after the censorship process, the festival encourage filmmaker to deliver the exhibition copy digitally.
• The International Jury Panel will select the winning films and distribute the prizes namely Malaysia Golden Global Awards. The Jury Panel will be composed of several individuals selected by the Festival.
9) Copyright Indemnity
The entrant is responsible for all necessary copyright clearances for material used in their submitted works, and shall fully indemnify the Festival from any damage resulting from copyright infringement lawsuits from other parties.
