Announcement Of ‘Screening Films’ For The 2nd Malaysia International Film Festival And ‘Nomination Lists’ Of Malaysia Golden Global Awards

Kuala Lumpur, 8th January 2018 – The much-awaited 2nd Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) finally unveiled its screening list and Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA) nominated list today through its press conference at Dorsett KL. Over 20 extraordinary films havecome into spotlight and screen throughout the festival.Apart from the film screening, there will be forums, masterclassesas well as Q&A sessionsfor industry professionals and local audience to embrace the power of cinema.

In-Sung Jo (The King), Jack Tan (Shuttle Life), ThanethWarakulnukroh (Pop Aye), Bamboo Chen (The Great Buddha+), HamedBehad (Blockage) would compete for the Best Actor category; While nominees of Best Actress are Sylvia Chang (Shuttle Life), Vicky Chen (Angels Wear White), Leena Alam (A Letter to the President), Daphne Low (AQERAT), Geunyoung Moon (Glass Garden).MIFFest has gathered all the extraordinary films internationally. Over 20 films come into spotlight and will be screened throughout the festival. To highlight a few of the major films are Love Education, which is chosen for the opening film,The Bold, The Corrupt and TheBeautiful that grabs 7 nominations in Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, Pop Aye, a blockbuster movie from the emerging director Kirsten Tan, the local film AQERAT, and Yellow, an Iran movie to be the Closing Film. Apart from the film screening, there will be many forums, masterclass as well as Q&A session which gather all the directors and actors for industry professionals and local audience.

 

BRILLANTE LEADS 2ND MGGA JURY PANEL; NAOMI AS THE 7TH JURY MEMBER

Themulti-awarded director Brillante Mendoza will lead the juries for the 2nd Malaysia International Film Festival. The 5 other distinguished jury members include renowned director Tran Anh Hung (Scent of the Green Papaya, Norwegian Wood. Eternity), prominent filmmaker Patrick Tam (After This Our Exile), well known Taiwanese producer and actress Lee Lieh (Jump Ashin!,Monga), famousIndian actress SuhasiniManiratnam (Bandhana, Suprabhata, Indira) and outstanding Malaysian filmmaker Dain Said (director, Interchange). We are proudly present the renowned director, Naomi Kawase who received international recognitions and awards at many international film festival will also join the jury panel as the latest 7th jury member.

 

NEW CATEGORIES IN MIFFEST & LET’S WATCH MOVIE ICON APPOINTMENT

MIFFest proudly presents Southeast Asian Focus, World Cinema and Female Filmmakers in Focus these three new categories to enhance the variety of movie recognition this year. In aware of the arise of female filmmakers contribution in global film industry and recent trending of feminism themed movies, Female Filmmakers in Focus is conceived and launch by MIFFest to recognize and acknowledge the female talent and voice in cinema. Apart from these new categories, Malaysia outstanding new actor, Jack Tan is appointed by MIFFest to be this year “Let’s Watch Movie Icon” and in hope of enhancing publicity of the festival by drawing Tan’s influence as support.

This year, MIFFest aims to promote film festival to the younger generation. College and universities promotional tour is created to inspire and support the next generation of youngfilmmakers. A sharing session by the CEO Taipei Golden Horse Awards – Wen Tien Hsiang will be held on 20th January, 3pm at Han Chiang University College of Communication. The event is organized by MIFFest and Chinese Film Association of Malaysia (CFAM), co-organized by Han Chiang University College of Communication and City Eye.
