Synopsis

Yuna’s parents separated when she was young. Her mother returned to Japan to remarry and start a new familly, leaving her in Belgium with her father. Years later, a sudden accident leaves him in a coma, prompting her mothers return, this time with a half-sister Yuna barely knows. It’s more than Yuna can handle at first, but as her father shows signs of recovery, she is forced to confront her own feelings and navigate the complex ties of her fractured family.

Miwako Van Weyenberg is a Belgian-Japanese director and screenwriter. In 2014, she won the VAF Wildcard with her RITCS bachelor graduation project Hitorikko. In 2015, followed her master graduation project Il Faisait Noir, and in 2017 short film Summer Rain, which was nominated in Cork and Thessaloniki, among other international film festivals. She then dove into her first feature film, Soft Leaves, which will have its world premiere at IFFR 2025 in the Big Screen Competition. The release is scheduled for March 2025.
