MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AND MALAYSIA GOLDEN GLOBAL AWARDS

The inaugural Malaysia International Film Festival & Malaysia Golden Global Awards is set to celebrate the best international & local films and to promote the unique Malaysian arts & cultures to audiences worldwide. Above all, it would try to promote Malaysian tourism industry.

The Malaysia International Film Festival will run from 28 February 2017 to 4 March 2017 at Nu Sentral Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur while the awards presentation will take place on 5 March 2017 at the Arena of Stars Genting Highlands, a casino resort about 90 minutes away by car. The centrepiece of the festival will be a competition of 10 international films having their Malaysian premiere at the festival. Playing alongside them will be 20 other films that Malaysians would not be able to otherwise catch at the local commercial cineplexes.

The festival is supported by National Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and a panel of very kind and generous international advisers who work or have worked with festivals such as Cannes, Venice and the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. We are honored to announce that Malaysian singer-actress, Ms. Angelica Lee is the ambassador for this mega event.

During the film festival, we would be displaying a variety of local and international films of all languages in the cinemas to showcase the creative achievements of acclaimed filmmakers. In addition to that, the organizers aim to maximize cultural and creative exchange among fellow cineastes over the forums and experience sharing sessions held during the festival. We are looking to have films from as many as 20 countries such as France, Spain, Japan and more to be premiered at the festival.

There is a tremendous amount of beauty, truth and creativity in good films, regardless of their language, nationality or genre. We invite you to join us in sharing them, talking about them and celebrating the people who made them. It is our fervent hope that our combined enthusiasm will catch on and spark a new Malaysian love affair with film. One that goes beyond CGI and superheroes and into the realm of human truths and real life stories, told in fresh and often completely unexpected ways.
